Can a GMO be natural? Of course

Agrobacterium, "nature's genetic engineer", has been used for over 100 years to create plants that can protect themselves naturally. Though thousands of products are on the market that have been genetically modified, it was only when Monsanto created Genetically Modified Organisms that anyone objected.

Now nothing is natural. Or everything is. And the the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in California made a bigger mess of it when they allowed a lawsuit against the Conagra food processing company, over labeling vegetable oil as "natural" even though it contains genetically engineered ingredients, to proceed as a class action, which means numerous consumers who bought its Wesson vegetable oil can join the environmental lawyers in getting rich over nothing.

There is a reason the 9th is the most overturned Appeals court by the Supreme Court. It is why so many environmentalists file there. Almost any decision in defiance of science, health or common sense will occur. Conagra now wants the Supreme Court to reverse the class action designation on a technicality, because there's no way to "efficiently and reliably identify" the millions of people who've bought Wesson oil over the past decade. That sounds weasel-y but a legal technicality is what the 9th used to undermine science once again.

It was just a few years ago that vegetable oil was touted as being healthier than saturated fat because of vegetables. Now environmental lawyers are hoping it will be healthy for their yacht payments.
